Hanin Abed-alGhanni

Born into a poor family, she was affected by meningitis  immidiately after She was born. She sufress from spastic quadriplegi with severe mental retardation as we as speech and vision problems. She was admitted to the JMF on 1/12/2003 and according to physical therapy assessment she was suffering from the following:

• Severe speslicity in both upper and lower limbs.
• Very poor head control and inability to sit and roll or stand.
• Shortening in some muscles of both lower and upper limbs.

Therefore the child took intensive physical therapy by using different types of exercises such as:
• Balance exercises in sitting position.
•Stretching and range of motion exercises to lengthening the contracted muscles and maintain the joint.
• Weight bearing exercises for both upper and lower limbs to reduce spasticity.
• The use of standing frame.

After several sessions of physical therapy the therapist can notice obvious progress:
The child now can sit with minimal support according to sitting balance and head control improvement. The spasticity is reduced as a result of intensive physical therapy
Complications of the paralysis like joint calcification and fixed contractors, osteoporosis, joint dislocations have also been preveited.

For the past two years, Hanin learns and trains at the Aya Center for special needs education. JMF contributes towards Hanin’s fees, as well as providing  physical and occupational therapy at JMF center, and she is continuously  improvming.
